Know More Hamster Breeds
Hamsters have been in existence on earth for eleven million years and they were first found in Asia, Europe and North Africa. According to the scientists, there are about eighteen species or hamster breeds but most people only get five breeds of hamster as pets.
Roborovski hamsters- These hamsters are dwarfed sized and have a short tail. Of all the hamster breeds, this is the smallest pet hamster that exists. You can place one or more of this type of hamster in a cage, as long as they are of the same sex. Never place the male and female roborovski hamsters in the same living space because they will multiply in no time. Sometimes when the living space become too crowded, the hamsters will eat their young ones. Since they are small in size, it is difficult catch them when they escape because of their quickness.
Syrian hamsters-Also referred to as the golden hamsters, these hamsters are found in different colors or shades. This type of hamster is the most common of all the hamster breeds. Syrian hamsters are also the biggest of all the breeds. It you buy more than one Syrian hamsters then make sure that you keep them separately as they are known to fight with each other when they are housed together.
Dwarf Campbell Russian hamsters- This is one other common type of hamster. You can keep the male and the female hamsters together because they will not fight with each other. This breed is known to produce young ones fast and if you do not want them to breed then you should house the Dwarf Campbell Russian hamsters separately.
Chinese hamsters- This type of hamster looks like a rat as it has a long tail, thing and long body. If you are planning to buy more than one Chinese hamsters, make sure you do not keep them in the same cage. Moreover, you should also separate the male and the female hamsters, if you do not want them to reproduce.
Winter white Russian dwarf hamsters- The last of the five pet hamster breeds is the winter white Russian dwarf hamsters. These hamsters are also referred to as Siberian hamsters. During the winter season, the grey coats of these hamsters will change into white color. It is recommended that you do not get this type of hamster if you have small children at home because this hamster breed does not like people to hold them. Sometimes they bite if they are held by people.
